From Death to Life
My Story
I wrote down a prayer at the beginning of the year.
“But God, would you breathe life on my art again. Give me visions of paintings you need me to paint… I want to paint again, but this time with you.”
After years of feeling unfulfilled and not going very far with painting even though I had talent and an art degree, I thought all my dreams about being an artist had died. I was challenged by a few friends to write down a prayer at the beginning of the year that only God could truly answer, so I did, having no idea what God had in store for me.
The very next month, out of the blue, I was invited to be a part of an art show AND I was invited to paint on stage every month during a worship set.
Through both of these events, my creative process changed completely. I wasn’t brainstorming my own ideas hoping that one might be successful. I wasn’t striving for recognition or money. I wasn’t comparing myself to the other million artists out there. I stopped spending hours making sure every line and brush stroke was perfect like I used to, and I wasn’t even stressed. My process now is asking a simple question.
“God, what do you need me to paint?“
He gives me a vision and I obey.
